Somatic Experiencing for Equestrians & Athletes
Apr 25, 2022
There is an undeniable correlation between stress, trauma, and our health. Individuals with a history of trauma are more likely to develop chronic illness and pain conditions. This, in turn, impacts an athlete’s ability to perform optimally on competition day, or even handle the pressure of training in a way that supports longevity.
For riders, this stress trauma, & chronic pain translates into the horse: A “spooky” horse, a horse that favours one side, saddle fit issues, etc. For CrossFit athletes it translates into a chronic shoulder issue, deep fears (maybe not even recognized by the conscious mind) of dropping under the bar in a sntach over a certain weight, & self sabotage around certain exercises.
Mindset work alone is not the fix. Drilling the exercise over & over again will not fix the root cause of the issue.
When the body itself is blocking us we must work with the body, allow it to lead us to that which is desiring attention & to be seen. Sometimes this process begins with actually being WITH the “problematic” behaviour or feelings not rejecting it or trying to layer positivity, or mindset “fixes”, on top.
We must work WITH & in the body to release the stress patterns, self sabotage, & trauma so that we can perform optimally in sport as well as life.
It is believed that repressed emotions are causing disease such as lung cancer, heart disease, etc. I have also worked with leading athletes in fields such as rock climbing & Crossfit who had been diagnosed with auto-immune diseases that impacted their ability to perform optimally which “magically” healed from somatic experiencing, releasing trapped emotions, & embodying their Human Design.
A field of interest that has been pulling me more lately has been working with athletes in regard to somatic experiencing, stress, & trauma. Luckily sports are starting to realize the importance of mindset work, yet what happens when it goes deeper than that?
We must address the root causes, as well as mindset work.
This type of work is only available 1:1 right now, for high performance athletes & entrepreneurs.
